Dobutamine

Mechanism of Action: Strong beta1 and weak beta2/alpha effects, resulting in increased cardiac output, blood pressure, and heart rate, as well as decreased peripheral vascular resistance

Classification; adrenergic direct-acting β1-agonist, cardiac stimulant

Used:

  • Congestive heart failure

Contraindications: hypersensitivity, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis

Side effects: anxiety, palpitations, tachycardia, hypo/hypertension, PVCs, angina, hypokalemia, heartburn, muscle cramps, dyspnea

Controlled: High-Alert
